studio as a laboratory

Works occasionally start with an unpredictable action or decision. This action leads you to go through different directions and it does not always allow you to predict neither the outcome nor the process. Starting with the first object, idea or affection that you get from daily practices, you continue to experience it without thinking much on what and how you are doing. However, to comprehend a true encounter, these purposeless actions have to be interrupted by moving a bit away from the work. This is the triple process; to interrupt, to look, and to decide on the possible ways to go… Works result from these repetitive actions with different durations. It is analogous to a chemist, more profoundly to an alchemist, making experiments in a laboratory. An alchemist, without knowing the outcome of a product, mixing different matters into each other, lets him/herself into different phases of experiments, ready to coincidental outcomes, and revealing how it might be possible with an anxiety on how it does not.

İşler bazen nereye gideceğini bilmediğiniz bir kapıdan giriverdiğinizde başlıyor. Ele geçen ilk nesne, akla gelen ilk fikir yahut duygulanış ile harekete geçiyorsunuz. Ne ya da nasıl yaptığınızı çok fazla düşünmeden ilerliyorsunuz. Doğru karşılaşmaları yakalamak için bu anlamsız denilebilecek süreçleri, zaman zaman yoğunlaşmış olduğunuz işin bir parça dışına çıkarak, geri çekilerek kesiyor, izliyor ve kararlar vermeye başlıyorsunuz. Her seferinde farklı bir süreci barındıran bu tekrarlı-hareketler neticesinde işler ortaya çıkıyor. Bu anlamda yolculuklarımı laboratuarda deney yapan bir kimyagerinkine, daha doğru bir yakınlıkta, simyacıninkine benzetiyorum. Ne elde edeceğini bilmeden, farklı maddeleri biribirine karıştıran ve her seferinde farklı bir sürece kapılan, bazen bir tesadüfün yardımı ile sonuçlar çıkarabilen ve genellikle nasıl olabileceğini, nasıl oluşmadıklarını da keşfederek ilerleyen bir simyacı.
